So many varieties of silver smalls… the ones pictured include figural
rooster shaped egg scissors, silverplate c.1920s with a garnet eye on one
side, priced at $110.00. Silver is a great area for diversity and fine
decorative motifs. One of the buttonhooks has a desirable figural motif
from the Art Nouveau era, $48.00, and the other has an attractive abstract
design from the same period, $55.00. |

Toleware was a popular style of painted decoration on tin ware in
the first half of the 19th century, especially in Pennsylvania, New York,
Connecticut, and Maine. The finish is matte, with black backgrounds and
brightly colored floral motifs. These are affordable examples of it, and
also an attractive old brass push-up candlestick as well. Both types
of candlesticks are certainly stylish today, especially in that type of
decorating termed 'shabby chic'. |

This is a selection of matchsafes, or Vestas. Before the safety
strike match, one had to store one's matches in a non-flammable container.
A good way to tell a reproduction from an old one is to check the striker-
if it's way too smooth to strike a match on, chances are it's new. These
are nice old ones. From left: 2.75in German silver matchsafe c.1900, $95.00.
2.24in sterling repousse matchsafe, $75.00. Figural 2.25in German silver
matchsafe w/ mermaid design, $165.00. |

This cast iron and spelter sculpture is a fine example of Art Nouveau
design, with the maiden perched on a poppy flower. The organic and feminine
motifs are typical of the style, as is the asymmetrical design. A very
nice piece with the gold colored finish mostly intact, and the woman has
well-cast realistic features. Take her home for $329.00. |

Once upon a time, most people carried flasks with them, both ladies
and gentlemen. After all, if a lady fainted due to a case of the 'vapors'
(or too-tight corset laces!) sometimes she needed something a little stronger
than smelling salts to revive her. The smaller one is Mexican sterling
and is $80.00. The larger one is English pewter by Sheffield, for $57.50. |

From back in the day when a farm wife had to make her own butter,
rather than driving to a supermarket and popping a tub of margarine in
the fridge, this blue Dazey butter churn is a great old kitchen collectable.
I'm sure you could even try it out, if you were so inclined. I bet it would
build muscles (and perhaps character) faster than a Nautilus machine! $200.00. |
