Photographica from the Victorian era is always a subject of fascination
today. There are many types of subjects, from stiff and formal ladies to
the more desirable military men to small, uncomfortable looking children.
Exposure times of early photographic techniques were so long, a smile was
impossible to hold. Cabinet photos on cardboard are an inexpensive way
to peek through a window to the past. Pictured is a selection of the numerous
ones available, with the price range of $7.00 to $15.00. |

This is a lovely yard-long print of an Edwardian lady in soft pastel
shades with lots of pink, framed and matted, and priced at $92.00. This
particular print may have been advertising for Pompeian beauty products,
but the exact origin is lost in time. Yard-long prints are a loosely defined
area of collecting that encompasses many period lithographs, from stratospherically
priced original Mucha to the more affordable classics like 'Yard of Pansies'.
The advertising figurals are especially nice, and branch out into other
areas of collecting like Cola and beer products. |

Old books, from scientific studies to colorful children's books,
are a great way to fill the bookcase. Books on science from the 1800s are
amusing, too, since in almost all areas the information is so amazingly
dated that it becomes fascinating once again. The children's book has beautiful
black & white illustrations. From left, 'Origin of Civilisation' by
Lubbock, regarding the mental & social condition of 'savages' c.1870,
$135.00. 'Vacation Days' children's book, $30.00. 'A Visit to South America'
book c.1878, $60.00. |

World's Fair memorabilia is plentiful and many love to collect it.
From '86 Vancouver Expo, to the ones almost a century before that, just
about anything that was a promo for the World's Fairs is out there somewhere,
since lots of people purchased or acquired souvenirs of their trip to the
Expo. This board game is in fact a cross collectable, as there are plenty
of people that accumulate old board games too. It's 14x10.5in from the
1964 World's Fair, $49.00 w/ some pieces missing. |
